“After flunking out of East Texas State, I got drafted so I went and enlisted in the Marine Corps and grew up. After the service, I returned to school and completed my BS and got a MS in Agriculture. In 2015, Texas A&M University - Commerce made me a distinguished alumnus. I'm pretty sure that out of about 135 or so, I'm the only one that ever flunk out. I also graduated from the Southwest Graduate School of Banking at SMU. I worked for Heritage Land Bank for 31 years with 20 of that as its CEO. I retired in 2005 to work for a friend to build a bank for him next to Home Depot called the Bank of Tyler. I retired from there in 2011. I got a real estate license in 2013.

As for activities, awards and accomplishments, I was appointed by Governor Clements to the Family Farm and Ranch Advisory Council in 1988. In 2008, Governor Perry appointed me to the Texas Agricultural Finance Authority which I currently serve as its Vice Chairman. I was recognized by the Agricultural County Agents as its Man of the Year In 2008. Also in 2008, Ag Workers Insurance awarded me the President's award for Outstanding Leadership in Agriculture. In 2015, Build East Texas, an AgriLife Extension program, awarded me the Bill and Mary Clements award for Outstanding Leadership in Agriculture. and in 2017, I was named the GTAR Realtor of the Year.

Activities related to Texas Realtors include chairing the GTAR Governmental Affairs Committee and service as Region 5 representative on the Political Involvement Committee commonly referred as PIC.

Current non realtor activities besides the Finance Authority, includes the State Advisory Board for the Governor Dolph Briscoe Texas Agriculture Lifetime Leadership (TALL) program, The National Development Board for Texas A&M Commerce, The Texas A&M System Chancellor's Council, the executive committee and board of the East Texas State Fair, and the Tyler Cystic Fibrosis board.
